Working Out in Winter
As the cold weather approaches, we can expect to see snowfall soon. Snowfall gives a great chance to have your children get some extra seasonal physical activity. Below we will discuss different activities that will be sure to warm up our students even on the coldest of days!

SLEDDING is not just a fun activity for your child, it also works on seated balance. In order to maintain balance and stability on the board, one must activate their core muscle. To make the activity more challenging, as you pull/ push your child, shift the sled over bumps and increase the speed.
Have your child BUILD A SNOWMAN! This activity requires students to stand on top of snow which also challenges balance as snow is a compliant surface that may shift below their feet. Molding snow into round balls forces one to activate different muscles within the hand.
ICE SKATING is a fun winter activity that challenges dynamic balance. It also provides vestibular input which can benefit students with overall low arousal.
Challenge your child to a SNOWBALL FIGHT! This activity promotes one to run improving muscular and cardiovascular endurance. It also works on hand-eye coordination and throwing skills. Try setting up targets to hit, or see how far you can throw each snowball.
Have your child help with SHOVELING. This functional movement challenges the strength of the core, lower extremity, and upper extremity. It is a full-body workout which will get the cardiovascular system engaged.
